"We are engaged with the Chinese side to peacefully resolve this issue," Indian External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said during an online media briefing Thursday evening in response to questions on Trump's offer.

"Our troops have taken a very responsible approach toward border management," Srivastava said after questions on the ongoing standoff.

"India is committed to the objective of maintenance of peace and tranquility in the border areas with China," he said. "At the same time, we remain firm in our resolve to ensuring India's sovereignty and national security."

The standoff began on May 5 when Indian and Chinese soldiers clashed at Pangong Tso, a lake 14,000 feet above sea level in the Himalayan region of Ladakh along their common border known as the Line of Actual Control, or LAC. Troops engaged in fistfights and attacked each other with sticks and stones, leaving scores on both sides injured, local media reported. Over 1,000 Chinese soldiers had transgressed onto Indian territory .....
